Fred: A Language For Writing Extensible Programs
I am developing a programming language, called Fred, with the goal of
improving the extensibility of programs. The design of Fred is
centered around a generalization of predicate dispatching, which
itself generalizes several other object-oriented dispatch mechanisms.
This allows programs to be easily extended with behavior orthogonally
to the subtyping hierarchy; in other words, Fred is also an
aspect-oriented programming language. I will demonstrate the features
of the language through examples, and compare them with examples in
other AOP languages. I will also discuss the prototype
implementation, which is embedded in MzScheme, as well as future
directions for language development.
Upcoming presentations:
12/5 Paul Steckler
1/9 Galen Williamson
1/23 Mitch Wand
Most meetings will be 1030-1230 in 306 EG.
