Introduction

Diagrams are those static, schematic images that allow people to make sense of complex and sometimes abstract ideas and information. Diagrams are the lifeblood of all scientific and technical communication. In the literature of biology for example, approximately half of a typical published research paper is devoted to the figures - the figure itself or caption or discussion in the body of the paper. In this launch of the site, 19 March 2004, some gallery pages and a few essays are available. Major development of the site will occur Summer 2004, when I'm not teaching. The domain for this site is www.diagrams.org. All the material actually resides in the College of Computer Science at Northeastern University -- Bob Futrelle
